Training

The club hosts a range of weekly activities including pool sessions and sea sessions, and runs trips to rivers and lochs around Scotland most weekends.

One of the club’s most successful events is Freshers’ Trip held near the beginning of Semester 1, which offers students a great opportunity to have a go at kayaking on a river with plenty of support from senior members.

The trip is aimed at those who would like to join the club, particularly those who have never kayaked before, and is a great way to meet lots of people and have fun.

As well as weekly training sessions and river trips, the club also takes part in races and competitions, including kayak polo and BUCS slalom. These events provide opportunities to meet paddlers from other universities, whilst having a go at a new type of activity.

Coaching

The Canoe Club makes use of a team of fantastic, qualified student coaches and leaders. These coaches volunteer their time to allow the club to provide members with fun, safe, quality teaching.

The student coaches run two pool sessions and a sea session every week, and often lead the river trips. Occasionally the club will hire highly qualified professional coaches to help run larger multi-day trips.
